The Bavarian U15's tied Atletico Santa Rosa from California North 1-1 this morning in the Las Vegas Majors Cup. Santa Rosa scored early and held their lead until the last three minutes when Steven Henderson scored for the Bavarians off of a free-kick to tie the score 1-1. Jake Taylor had an opportunity in the closing seconds to take all three points on a breakaway that the Atletico keeper somehow saved, final score 1-1.
The Bavarians tied Real Colorado Olympico 0-0 in thier second game of the day. With the tie they finish 2nd in their bracket and now move on to the quarterfinals where they play Eclipse Select East 94-95.
The quarterfinals saw another tight battle with our neighbors from Illinois. The score after regulation was 0-0 which meant penalty kicks would decide the winner. Tied 3-3 after five shooters, the Eclipse won in the 6th round 3-4.
The Bavarians played Westminster AFC Samba from Colorado in the consolation bracket. The Bavarians came out a little slow after their disappointing penalty kick loss to the Eclipse and fell behind 0-2. They battled back to 1-2 but gave up a late goal on the counter attack trying to tie the score, final 1-3.
Quotes from coach Coleman below
It was a very well organized tournament with great facilities and competition. I was very pleased with how the team handled themselves on and off the field. For the first time this year playing full sided the team showed some really good stuff. The heart and determination was there along with some quality of play. We had some hard fought battles and were unfortunate not to get into the semifinals after losing to Eclipse on penalities 4-3.
The team was unfortunate not to come away with a few victories. We had some difficulties putting the ball in the back of the need. Can't win games if you can't score goals! This team takes pride on being difficult to beat which I thought we did a good job of and exciting to watch, which we will improve on. I learned a lot of what the teams capabilities are and look to build on what we learned this weekend. It is a work in progress and the squad is really coming together to make a run this upcoming season.
A special thanks goes to Lisa Taylor for all her hard work. It would not have been as fun and successful without your help! She is a one woman travel agency. Of note the Bavarians opening match opponent (Atletico) played in the U15 Final vs Colorado Rapids.
